Stepping out of the studio: Giving Thanks – Tuesday Tech tip

Thanksgiving seems to sneak up on me. While it’s certainly announced quite clearly on calendars and various media, for some reason that particular US holiday freqently manages to catch me half-unaware. It always feels like it should be another week out.

The shortened week ends up being a forced but pleasurable pause – a bit like getting a flat tire on your bike, but in a perfect location on the trail. After an initial bit of chagrin, you realize it’s just the spot to stretch, relax, and tend to a simple task while you reset.

Perhaps the first thing to be thankful for is the gift of that pause. With continual demands upon us while running our voiceover businesses, actually finding a moment of respite can be tricky.

With a four day weekend, there’s generally a sharp flurry of projects due or auditions demanded early in the week, followed by that sudden drop in  emails and client requests.

Taking these moments to look around, I feel much gratitude in the opportunityt to work with such creative, focused individuals. From new students in beginning VO classes, to mentors who selflessly share their wisdom those around them, this crazy business brings together a variety of wonderful humans. They bring with them an incredible wealth of experience and insight. I feel very lucky to have found my way here.
