This page is an ongoing resource for Zoom-related connection tips. When in a Zoom session (which I use for remote coaching, consulting and training sessions), you cannot “share” parts of the screen which control Zoom Preferences. This is where you can find some of the step-by-step processes for sharing screens, setting audio and other “behind the curtain” tasks.
Zoom – Sharing Your Screen
During our session – I may ask you to “Share Your Screen” – this is a good basic task which can be slightly tricky.
These screenshots demonstrate within MacOS – Windows will differ visually, though the concept is the same.
First – “Where are my controls?”
Good question! When you are in a session, Zoom “hides” the controls to provide less visual distraction. So if you have haven’t moved anything for a few minutes, your screen may be blank (in the images below, the local camera is also turned off – in your case, you’ll likely see yourself and anyone else in a session in the main window while doing this).
Simply move your mouse or interact with your trackpad to wake up the controls – they should appear at the bottom of the screen:
When you click on the “Share Screen” icon, you should see this screen:
The first time you select “Share computer sound”, Zoom will load the Zoom Audio Driver. This should open a permission window for you to accept this. This should send you to the System Preferences where you’ll have to unlock your Security settings and allow this to occur.
Missing this step can cause some issues! Pay attention and move slowly!
