Seasonal Thoughts: A Simple Thanks

Bringing words to life, telling amazing stories, creating characters on the fly. The diverse world of voice acting continues to challenge and inspire.

November 2024 – It’s humbling to look around and consider how many variables had to drop into place to put us where we are today. Simple events occurred causing us to respond in a way that may have seemed trivial at the time. However each of them nudged us forward to the next stepping stone.

I think about when first dipping a toe into the world of VO training, the experienced voice actor I met who had no idea how to create a home setup. Their agent had suddenly required self-recorded auditions, making this my first VO audio client.

Classes and workshops brought coaches and mentors who challenged and helped me to appreciate the pathway to VO success would be a unique journey.

I’m still in awe of the amazing range of talented and supportive individuals I’ve met so far who, like me, have found themselves in this pocket of of creativity.

Skills learned from improv, business, and creative ideas refined by podcasts, books, and videos all provided encouragement to create structures, frameworks, and workflows to build efficiency.

As with any journey, there were lessons learned from flailing and failing, often leading to finding stronger focus.

To keep a positive focus, I leaned into music that inspired, words that challenged and thoughts that created a solid foundation upon which to build. (And of course there was that cohort of other voice actors who continue to remind me of the good in the world).

Along the way there were good times and grinding struggles – all of which I’ve managed to survive. I continue hold memories of those souls who have left us and those others I’m still lucky to have in my life.

When starting to identify any of these waypoints, more examples seem to present themselves and reinforce the support of the larger community. Taking time to identify the good stuff and choosing to carry it with us helps maintain positive momentum.

Thank you for being here with your questions, insights, and interest. Whether we’ve worked together directly in a group class or singly, or you’ve quietly read these words each week, I greatly appreciate your presence.
